Furniture installation pricing lives or dies on two numbers: how many units are being installed and how the product arrives on site. A dock-to-floor install with an elevator is a different job from a curbside delivery with a stair carry, even with identical furniture.
This editable template prices by product type and unit count, states the receiving and staging assumptions, separates installation labor from delivery and disposal, and defines what the punch list and sign-off actually cover.

How to write this proposal
Gather this before you price an installation
Installation labor is a function of product counts and building access. Get both before quoting.
- Approved installation drawing with revision number and date
- Unit counts by product type and manufacturer
- Delivery path: dock, elevator type and reservation rules, stair carries
- Who receives, inspects and stores the product, and for how long
- Whether power and data whips are installed by others before install
What belongs in the installation scope
List receiving and staging, delivery, install counts by product type, leveling and adjustment, debris removal, and the punch walkthrough with written sign-off. Reference the approved drawing revision — installs are re-done most often because the field crew worked from a superseded plan.
Common furniture installation exclusions
These are the items customers most often assume are included.
- Electrical and data whip connections and terminations
- Anchoring into structure, wall backing or floor modifications
- Removal and disposal of existing furniture
- Extended warehouse storage beyond the staging period
- Replacing product that arrives defective or freight-damaged
How installers usually organize pricing
Two patterns are common: hourly crew pricing, or a per-unit price by product type with separate receiving, delivery and debris lines. Per-unit pricing is easier for dealers to compare; hourly is safer when drawings are not final. Publish the return-trip rate either way, because return trips are the most common surprise cost.
Describe the schedule around site readiness
Give the product-received date, install start, crew size, shift, estimated install days and the punch walkthrough date. State plainly that the schedule assumes a finished, clean floor with a reserved elevator — that single sentence is what supports a return-trip charge later.
What confuses customers on install proposals
Whether the installer connects power whips, who pays when product arrives damaged, and what the punch list covers. Say that punch items caused by manufacturer defects are reported to the dealer and that installing replacement product is quoted separately.
Check before you send

Track This Proposal FreeFrequently asked questions
What should a furniture installation proposal include?
The approved drawing revision, unit counts by product type, receiving and staging terms, delivery, installation labor, debris removal, site-readiness assumptions, exclusions, the punch walkthrough and sign-off, pricing, the return-trip rate and an expiration date.
Should installation be priced per unit or hourly?
Per-unit pricing is easier for dealers and facility teams to compare and works well once drawings are approved. Hourly crew pricing is safer when counts or site conditions are still moving. Many installers combine both: per-unit install with hourly return trips.
Who is responsible for freight-damaged product?
Document damage with photos at receiving and report it to the dealer or manufacturer. Installation proposals normally exclude the cost of replacement product, and quote the labor to install replacements separately once it arrives.
What does the punch list cover?
It covers installation issues — alignment, leveling, hardware, missing adjustments — identified at the walkthrough and corrected by the installer. Manufacturer defects are reported rather than repaired on site, and replacement installs are quoted as additional work.
Why do installation proposals include site-readiness assumptions?
Because a crew that arrives to an unfinished floor, an unreserved elevator or missing power whips loses the day. Stating the assumption is what makes a return-trip charge fair and predictable rather than a surprise.
